An opponent that shows its thinking

We are an independent game studio in Manchester building abstract strategy games for Android, with small boards, few pieces and deep consequences.

Our focus is the computer opponent. We design opponents that play fairly, adjust to the player, and can explain afterwards why they chose a move.

The boards we are working on borrow from the long tradition of abstract games, from draughts to Go, but each one is designed for a phone held in one hand. A match is meant to take a few minutes, yet a single game should reward studying for months. Difficulty settings are planned to change how far ahead the opponent looks rather than giving it extra pieces or secret information, so a win always means the player out-thought it. Every opponent will also be able to suggest a hint, framed as a question about the position rather than a move to copy.

A good opponent should leave you understanding the game better than before you lost to it.

Fair by construction

Our opponents are designed to see only what a human player would see, and to play by exactly the same rules.

Explain the move

After a game, the opponent can replay its key decisions with a plain-language note on what it was trying to achieve.

Small boards, long thought

We favour boards that fit comfortably on a phone and rules that fit on one card, so that depth comes from interaction rather than from rule count.

Questions about a rule, comments on the site or a privacy request can all reach us by letter. Ask a rules question.
